Kampala → Bwindi – Journey to the Misty Mountains
This Bwindi gorilla trekking safari takes you from Kampala into Uganda’s mist‑covered Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a close, respectful encounter with wild mountain gorillas. Over 3 days you travel by road, spend a full day trekking with expert rangers and return with a story most travellers never experience.
Your guide meets you at 7:00 AM at your hotel or Entebbe Airport. We load up the 4x4 Land Cruiser and begin the scenic drive southwest.
- The Equator: Stop at the 0° latitude line for photos and coffee.
- The Drive: Watch the landscape change from savannah to the terraced "Switzerland of Africa" (Kigezi Highlands).
- Arrival: Check into your lodge in Bwindi as the mist rolls in. Dinner and briefing for the big day tomorrow.
07:30 AM: Briefing by UWA rangers at the park headquarters. You will be assigned a gorilla family based on your fitness level.
The Trek: Hike into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The terrain is steep and wild.
The Encounter: Once found, you spend exactly 60 minutes with the Silverback and his family. Watch them play, groom, and eat. It is a profound, silence-filled hour.
Afternoon: Return to the lodge to relax or take an optional community walk to meet the Batwa pygmies.
After breakfast, we bid farewell to the forest. The return journey offers a second chance to spot zebras and impalas as we pass Lake Mburo National Park.
We stop for a traditional lunch in Mbarara and aim to drop you off at Entebbe Airport or your hotel by 17:00 PM.
